Program Overview
Course Ready is NC State’s digital-preferred, flat-rate course materials program designed to streamline access to essential course materials for undergraduate students enrolled in undergraduate courses at NC State.
The program addresses the growing issue of students lacking access to required materials due to cost. By making textbooks more accessible and affordable, it supports student success.
Yes, it is understood that a one-size-fits-most model may not meet the needs of every course format, curricula, or mode of instruction. Please specify on your textbook adoptions any specific requests and contact the program if you wish to review your required course materials at courseready@ncsu.edu.
Unlike tuition, fees, and health insurance—which are equal for all students—textbook costs can vary widely by major. Course Ready reduces this financial inequity by charging a single rate, ensuring all students have equal academic opportunities.
Yes. However, if you choose to opt out you will need to purchase your textbooks at current retail or resale prices either by ordering from Wolfpack Outfitters online at shop.ncsu.edu or from an outlet of your choice. If you change your mind, you can opt in again. The program works on a semester-by-semester basis, so students are automatically opted in each semester and have the option to opt out each time.
If faculty provide course information, students can use the Wolfpack Outfitters cost estimator tool at shop.ncsu.edu/adoption-search to view their textbook expenses.
Program Participation
No. The program is currently for undergraduate students only.
No. Course Ready is an all-in or all-out program each semester.
All students will receive access to digital course materials at no charge until the opt-out deadline. Those who wish to opt-out can choose which materials they want to pay for and use on a material-by-material basis. Regardless of whether or not you are opted in to the program, most materials will now be digital.
Yes. Prior to the opt-out deadline, you can opt back into Course Ready. After the opt-out deadline, please email courseready@ncsu.edu to request to opt in. Once your opt-in is confirmed, the charge will be submitted to your student bill.
Accessing & Using Course Materials
Most required materials will be delivered digitally and accessed through Moodle. Print materials are provided only when digital versions aren’t available or when requested by faculty. If you have print materials they will be available to pick up at Wolfpack Outfitters. No ordering is required for these materials—they’re processed automatically. Optional materials must be ordered separately. If you opt out before picking up print items, no action is needed—we’ll cancel the order. If you’ve already picked them up, you must return them to Wolfpack Outfitters by the fourth Saturday of classes to avoid being charged the full price. For help with access or ordering, email courseready@ncsu.edu.
No. Only required materials are included as part of Course Ready. Optional materials suggested by the professor may be ordered from Wolfpack Outfitters. Students who need assistance acquiring optional course materials may contact courseready@ncsu.edu.

Yes, for some materials. Many digital textbooks can be downloaded and read after the term ends. However, courseware like McGraw-Hill Connect or Pearson MyLab typically expires at the end of the semester unless noted otherwise.
The ereader is fully device-agnostic, scalable, and allows simultaneous usage across multiple devices. Further, content downloaded to the ereader app can be accessed in offline situations if it was downloaded before loss of internet connection. As for saving as a file, copyright laws can restrict licensed content from taking form as redistributable files. Allowing content to only be downloaded within the ereader puts the onus on the provider to protect copyright and relieves the University of associated risks.
